I recently picked up a NuPhy keyboard (one of the FN-equipped models like the Node75 / Air60 V2 / Air75 V2), and the first thing I did wasn’t typing — it was reading through the official usage guide. The original lives at nuphy.dev as an interactive keyboard shortcut guide, quite intuitive, but opening a webpage every time I forget a key combo gets old fast. So I consolidated the most-used combos into a personal cheat sheet and parked it on my own blog for quick reference.
This is based on the official nuphy.dev guide, just reorganized to my own usage habits to make it easier to memorize. The original link is at the end — images and per-model correspondence should be verified against the official page.

- 🪟 System Mode: Win or Mac
The keyboard distinguishes two system modes by default; switching affects how modifier keys (Opt / Cmd etc.) are mapped:
| Combo | Effect |
|---|---|
| FN + Win/Mac switch key | Toggle between Win mode / Mac mode |
Make sure the system mode is correct on first connection, otherwise Opt/Cmd positions on Mac will be misaligned.
- 📡 Connection Mode & Device Switching
NuPhy supports three connection states: power off, wired, and wireless. In wired mode you must use a data cable — a plain charging cable won’t be recognized.
Wireless device switching is the most convenient part of this keyboard:
| Combo | Short press | Long press 3s |
|---|---|---|
| FN + 1 | Switch to Bluetooth 1 | Bluetooth 1 enters pairing |
| FN + 2 | Switch to Bluetooth 2 | Bluetooth 2 enters pairing |
| FN + 3 | Switch to Bluetooth 3 | Bluetooth 3 enters pairing |
| FN + 4 | Switch to 2.4G | 2.4G enters pairing |
2.4G receiver: press FN + 4 first, then plug in the receiver.
Tip: The long-press-to-pair design means you don’t need to delete the old pairing in your OS menu to bind a new device — just re-pair directly.
- 💡 Backlight: Brightness, Effect, Color, Speed
The backlight (under the keycaps) is fully controlled by a set of FN combos:
| Combo | Effect |
|---|---|
| FN + ↑ / ↓ | Brightness up / down |
| FN + < | Cycle backlight effect |
| FN + > | Cycle backlight color |
| FN + < / > (combined) | Effect speed down / up |
- 🌈 Sidelight (RGB light bar)
The sidelight is the RGB bar on the edge of the keyboard; the combos are similar to the backlight but with an extra M modifier:
| Combo | Effect |
|---|---|
| FN + M + ← / → | Sidelight brightness down / up |
| FN + M + ↑ / ↓ | Cycle sidelight effect |
| FN + M + color/speed keys | Color, speed adjustment (same idea as backlight) |
Memory trick: anything involving the “sidelight” starts with holding FN + M, then the arrow keys do the rest.
- 😴 Sleep Mode
| Combo | Effect |
|---|---|
| FN + ] | Toggle sleep mode on/off (after ~6 min idle, lights turn off and it sleeps) |
Once sleep is on, the keyboard sleeps and turns off its lights after ~6 min of inactivity; press any key to wake. If you leave the keyboard often and don’t want frequent reconnections, keep this on. If it’s externally powered and always in use, you can manually turn it off to skip the wake delay.
- 📸 Screenshot Shortcuts
| System | Combo | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Mac | FN screenshot combo | Region screenshot |
| Mac | FN screenshot combo (full) | Full-screen screenshot |
| Win | FN screenshot combo | Full-screen screenshot |
On a light travel setup you don’t need to memorize the OS-native screenshot shortcuts — the keyboard gives you the screenshot directly.
- 🔋 Persistent Battery Display
| Combo | Effect |
|---|---|
| FN + \ | Toggle persistent battery level display on/off |
When on, the left RGB bar keeps showing the battery tier. The downside is a tiny bit of extra drain — if you care about battery life, just let it show while charging.
- ♻️ Factory Reset
| Combo | Effect |
|---|---|
| FN + [ | Long press 3s to restore factory settings |
This is the “ultimate reset key” — all custom lighting, pairings, and sleep settings get wiped. If you mess up VIA remapping so badly the keyboard won’t recognize keys, this is the cleanest way back.
- 🚥 Status Indicators on the Light Bar
The RGB bars on both sides of the keyboard aren’t just decoration — they double as status indicators:
| Position | Indicates |
|---|---|
| Left | Caps Lock, wired mode, Bluetooth mode, 2.4G mode status |
| Right | Battery tier (1%–10% / 11%–95% / 96%–100%), sleep mode on/off |
| Mode light | Win mode / Mac mode |
One glance at the bar tells you the connection state, battery level, and active system mode — basically no guessing.
- 🎛️ VIA Remapping Software
VIA is open-source key-remapping software independent of NuPhy, great for tuning the keyboard to your liking:
- Download: nuphy.com/pages/console
- Prerequisite: the keyboard must be in wired mode (using a data cable)
- If the keyboard still isn’t detected in wired mode, contact support
My personal setup uses VIA to turn Caps Lock into a Hyper key and remap the FN row into a row of media controls — the whole keyboard gets noticeably more efficient.
📝 Summary
Memorize the shortcuts by grouping them into three layers:
| Layer | Key combos |
|---|---|
| Connection | System mode (Win/Mac) + device switch (FN + 1/2/3/4) |
| Lighting | FN alone for backlight, FN + M for sidelight; arrows for brightness/effect/speed |
| Maintenance | FN + ] sleep, FN + \ battery, FN + [ long-press reset, VIA for custom |
Master these and you basically never need to reach for the manual again. To be clear once more: this is my personal cheat sheet — the original interactive guide and per-model correspondence should be checked against the official nuphy.dev page. 🚀
